The following short walk around the village of Church Fenton is four and a half to five miles and is classed as easy going. Here then are the directions and the map to show you the way: The walk starts at the church, then heads north to a phone box then east past the White Horse pub. After about .25 miles you will come to some council houses. Across the road to them you will see Northfield Lane, go up there. After about another quarter of a mile there is a finger post on the right, look for tracks on the ground for the path. After that is a grass verge, then an open field. Aim for right hand side of a new (N.E) fence, round perimeter. Follow the fence round to your left, when the fence turns right follow it to the road. When you get to the road, turn right (south) and walk to a sign post pointing to Ryther. Go down Ryther road, about 100 Metres, and on the left hand bend where there is a tractor access to the field you will see a ditch with grass on either side, (Point A) and a concrete drain cover hidden in the grass. From that point aim for the SE corner (the far left) of a lean-to new barn. Just round the barn on the field edge is an old gate post (Point B). Follow the field edge round then, go between the houses. This is your two-mile marker. If you have to return to the church turn right here and follow the road. To continue, turn left (east) until on a sharp left hand bend you will see a new brick village sign and an old bench. Thirty metres right of the bench is a finger post to the left of a tree. (Point C) Use the field edge path keeping the paddock fence on your right. Not little lane. Continue south, and then at the end of the field turn left, in a few yards you come to a gap and a ditch. This is Carr Dyke (Point D). At this point if you follow the northern edge of the dyke westward to a footbridge, cross over and continue to road. Turn right and head north, this will also take you back to the church. Your route is to head south keeping Carr Dyke on your right. Just after 3 Mile marker is a wood over ditch. Stick to your route at east side of ditch (Point E). Shortly after this is a gate on your right, (Point F) with a way marker arrow on it. Go through the gate and still heading south aim for the far right hand corner of the field. (Point G) In the corner is a stile, mind the brambles, cross this then turn right heading west. Continue to the T-junction; turn right and head north to bring you back to the church.
